RUSTIC INTERIOR DESIGN

The rustic style is genuinely raw, with unfinished characteristics in wood and stone. The focus of the rustic style is in the raw, natural, and rough elements which are adventurous and audacious. This style also carries dashes of native and organic structure. Characteristics of the Rustic style:

  • Exposed beams

  • Use of salvaged wood from demolition

  • Stone walls (or layered in stone)

  • Flooring with raw wood (or detailed)

  • Use of animal skins, leathers, or natural fabrics in neutral colors

  • Handmade and crafted objects

  • Wooden fireplaces (or electrical) and statement stairs

Designers of Rustic Style are inspired by nature and make use of accessories that come mainly from the natural outdoors. Most of the furnishings consists of memorable and elaborate architectural details such as flooring and wall paneling made from salvaged wood and ceiling wood beams.  Many people consider the rustic style too heavy and dark, but current trends show the endless possibilities of mixing the rustic style with modern/contemporary details, resulting in one of a kind designs which are also light, and functional rustic interiors.
